Internships

Northwestern Mutual - A Top 10 Internship Program

Financial Representative interns with Cornerstone Financial Group have the same opportunities to build their careers as our full-time representatives. Like Financial Representatives, interns strive to provide expert guidance and innovative solutions for clients in areas of risk management and wealth accumulation. Interns acquire entrepreneurial experience while working in a supportive environment. They are provided with initial training, a mentor, and the support needed to be successful. The benefits of the internship experience with Cornerstone Financial Group include:

  • Business experience for your resume
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Assistance with career selection process
  • Developing networking and business relationships

We are seeking highly-motivated, success-driven students who desire to be challenged and build relationships with members of the community. Still uncertain? Visit Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Internships. Here you'll find videos from current interns who talk about their experience, a quick tour highlighting some of the career aspects, and a fun quiz, "Have You Got What It Takes?" to help you decide if you're suited for a financial representative internship.

Dave started his career with Cornerstone Financial Group in 1979 as a college intern and converted to a full-time Financial Representative in 1982. Dave Horne has been named The Cornerstone Financial Group's Financial Representative of the Year six times throughout his tenure. David has over 30 years of experience to draw from. David has found a niche working with high net worth individuals and small to mid-sized business owners. He credits the Network with offering many opportunities to assist clients with their financial needs with the most accomplished and thorough financial preparation.

Mindy started working with Cornerstone Financial Group in 2002 as Financial Representative Intern. Upon her graduation from Marquette University, Mindy began her full-time career as a Financial Representative. She has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. Mindy now manages the Cornerstone Financial Group-Oak Creek and a Top 10 College Intern Program. Welcome to our two most recent intern conversions:

Jake Wasechek began his career with Cornerstone Financial Group as a college intern; as he learned more about the challenges and the opportunities that the career provides, he opted to become a full-time Financial Representative after graduating:  “I learned that I can build a successful practice by putting my head down and working really hard to connect with individuals. If I can do this as an intern, I can be a successful full-time Financial Representative.”

Jake Wasechek credits the strength of Northwestern Mutual and his father as having the most influence on his decision to be a Financial Representative. Jake’s father has been in the financial services industry for over 20 years, and when asked what he would do if he were starting out in the business, his father replied that Northwestern Mutual would be his first, and only, choice: “I have an amazing opportunity with the strongest company in the industry, and combined with the fact that I can truly make a difference in someone’s life gives me the confidence to succeed as a full-time Financial Representative.”

Barry Fies joined Cornerstone Financial Group-Mequon through the Internship program; he enjoyed a high degree of success as an intern. As Barry learned more about the career and the opportunities that Cornerstone provides, he opted to become a full-time Financial Representative: “What made me realize that this was the career for me is the fact that I control my own sense of security through my personal production and performance while doing something that I find invaluable to my clients.”

Barry Fies realized that he could create a meaningful impact in the lives of his clients while maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit, and he chose Northwestern Mutual Financial Network because of the strength, reputation, and respect the organization has within his community. “The internship made me realize what a strong company Northwestern Mutual is, which makes it very easy to stand behind any solution I offer to my clients.”
